Yu Huaying’s child abduction and remand case was sentenced to death in the first instance
On October 25, the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court in Guizhou Province publicly pronounced its judgment in the case of defendant Yu Huaying, who was charged with child trafficking. This ruling followed a retrial ordered by the Guizhou High People’s Court. The court sentenced Yu Huaying to death, permanently stripped her of political rights, and ordered the confiscation of all her personal assets.
Following the retrial, the Guizhou People’s Procuratorate added allegations against Yu Huaying, revealing that she had trafficked six children, including an individual named Li. The court’s findings determined that between 1993 and 2003, Yu Huaying, along with accomplices Gong Xianliang (now deceased) and Wang Jiawen (who is involved in a separate case), engaged in a coordinated effort to exploit children across multiple regions, including Guizhou, Chongqing, and Yunnan. After identifying children for trafficking, they would transport the victims to Handan City in Hebei Province, where they sought buyers through various contacts, ultimately leading to the trafficking of a total of 17 children.
The court emphasized the severity of Yu Huaying’s actions, noting that her pursuit of illegal profits resulted in the separation of 12 families, leading to enduring emotional trauma. Many parents spent years searching for their children, suffering from substantial distress that led to severe consequences, including depression. The court recognized Yu Huaying’s significant moral culpability and the particularly heinous nature of her crimes, ruling that she deserved the harshest punishment. While her confession was noted, it was deemed insufficient to warrant leniency. Thus, the court delivered its sentence as stated.
