Xi Jinping had a phone call with Indonesian President Joko_1
On the afternoon of October 14, Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in a phone conversation with Indonesian President Joko Widodo at his invitation.
During the call, Xi emphasized the significance of their long-standing relationship, noting that in the ten years of President Joko’s tenure, he has visited China eight times and they have met twelve times. This, according to Xi, has led both nations to open a new chapter in building a shared future and establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership. He expressed high appreciation for Joko’s contributions to the friendship between China and Indonesia and expressed confidence that Indonesia’s new government would continue its friendly policies towards China, further advancing the construction of their shared community.
Xi also highlighted China’s commitment to collaborating with Indonesia on high-quality Belt and Road initiatives, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the sustainable operation of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway. He mentioned the goal of creating more cooperative highlights that would benefit the peoples of both nations. With next year marking the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, Xi expressed China’s eagerness to work with Indonesia to promote the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the spirit of Bandung, aiming for unity and cooperation among Global South countries to uphold the shared interests of developing nations and to foster regional and global development, prosperity, and stability.
In response, Joko reflected on the deep friendship that has developed between him and President Xi over the past decade, which he believes has led to significant achievements in their comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields. He expressed gratitude for China’s positive contributions to Indonesia’s economic development, pointing to the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway as a model of their Belt and Road collaboration. Looking ahead, Joko expressed confidence that under the leadership of the new Indonesian government, the relationship between the two countries would continue to thrive.
