On October 14, a reporter from China News Service, Guo Xiaoying, reported from Xiangyang, Hubei, highlighting the rich historical tapestry of the city, which is often described as a living testament to the Three Kingdoms era. With remains of over 50 cultural sites from that significant period, Xiangyang stands as a vibrant symbol of ancient history.

As I explored Xiangyang, I was drawn into the captivating allure of its Three Kingdoms culture. One of the city’s prominent historical sites is the Ancient Longzhong. Since the Jin Dynasty, Longzhong has served as an important pilgrimage site for those wishing to pay their respects to Zhuge Liang, a key figure of the Three Kingdoms.

During my visit to the Ancient Longzhong area, I was surrounded by towering ancient trees and lush greenery. The Martial Marquis Temple, the “Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage” hall, and other historical sites blend seamlessly into the serene surroundings, embodying the spirit of both seclusion and engagement with the world. The site periodically showcases performances such as “Longzhong Duet” and “Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage,” immersing visitors in the vibrant culture of the Three Kingdoms.

Another pivotal location in Xiangyang is the Water Mirror Studio, often regarded as the origin of the Three Kingdoms. The site includes attractions like the Jianxian Hall, the Water Mirror Temple, and a corridor featuring stories from the Three Kingdoms, each point telling its own compelling tale and inviting deep reflection.

“The history of the Three Kingdoms may be far behind us, but the wisdom, virtue, integrity, ambition, and sense of responsibility of its thinkers are indelibly etched in our hearts,” said Pu Yunxi, the manager of the Water Mirror Studio. “These qualities continue to resonate and are revered by future generations.”

Zhao Xiaofei, the vice president of the Zhuge Liang Research Association in Xiangyang, emphasized that as a crucial source of Three Kingdoms culture and stories, the city is dedicated to the preservation of its historical relics and the enhancement of cultural research and exchange, driving the sustainable development of its rich traditional cultural resources.
