Typhoon -Tami- will bring strong winds and rain to the coast of South China and southern waters
According to the China National Meteorological Center, weather updates from October 26 indicate that areas along the coast of Zhejiang, Fujian, central Guangdong, and Taiwan are experiencing strong winds due to the combined influence of Typhoon “Tammy” and a cold front. This morning, fog conditions were reported in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Over the next three days, attention will be focused on the development of Typhoon “Tammy,” as well as the impact of the strong winds and rains along the South China Sea and the southern coast of China. Additionally, the eastern Tibetan Plateau is expected to see rain and snow, which could affect transportation, agricultural production, and construction activities. Concern has also been raised about low visibility in regions such as Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, and Liaoning, attributed to fog and haze.
Typhoon “Tammy,” currently a strong tropical storm, is centered approximately 195 kilometers to the northeast of Yongxing Island in the South China Sea. As of 5 AM on October 26, its maximum wind speed reached level 11 (30 m/s), with a minimum central pressure of 980 hPa. The storm is moving west at a speed of 20-25 km/h and is expected to strengthen to typhoon level (33-35 m/s, level 12). After October 27, it will slow down in the central-western South China Sea before gradually moving east and weakening. A yellow alert for the typhoon has been issued.
From 8 AM on October 26 to 8 AM on October 27, regions including the northern part of the South China Sea, Qiongzhou Strait, Beibu Gulf, Dongsha Islands, and coastal areas of Guangdong and Guangxi are predicted to experience strong winds with speeds of 6-8 levels and gusts of 9-10 levels. Particularly, some areas in the southwestern North China Sea and Dongsha Islands could see winds reaching levels 9-10 and gusts of 11-12 levels, while near the typhoon’s center, winds may reach 11-12 levels with gusts of 13-14 levels.
From October 26 to 29, heavy rainfall is expected in eastern Zhejiang, northeastern Fujian, Hainan Island, and the Sansha area, with localized areas potentially experiencing extremely heavy rainfall. From 8 AM on October 26 to 8 AM on October 27, parts of southeastern Zhejiang, northeastern Fujian, Hainan Island, and the Xisha Islands are anticipated to witness heavy rains and even localized torrential rains with totals ranging from 250-270 mm.
Moreover, a weak cold front is expected to bring a temperature drop of 3-6 °C to the eastern Northwest region, North China, Inner Mongolia, and Northeast China from October 26 to 28. Some areas in Mid-Inner Mongolia could see decreases of more than 8 °C. The eastern Tibetan Plateau, eastern Inner Mongolia, and northern and western Xinjiang may experience light to moderate snow or sleet, with localized areas seeing heavy snow.
Additionally, foggy conditions were reported in Beijing, Tianjin, southern Hebei, northern Shandong, northeastern Henan, and southeastern Liaoning on the morning of October 26, with visibility in some areas dropping below 500 meters, and in extreme cases, below 200 meters. The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for the fog.
