The Chinatown Business Reform District will hold an “open street” event for all-day Halloween fun_1
This year, the Chinatown Business Improvement District is set to host a day-long Halloween celebration, promising festive surprises for both adults and children. With pumpkin carvings featuring spooky faces, skeleton figures standing on the streets, and the sweet aroma of cinnamon filling the air, it’s clear that Halloween is just around the corner.
The Department of Transportation’s annual “Trick-or-Streets” event is entering its third year, with over 100 open street activities scheduled. Manhattan’s Chinatown will join the fun on October 31st (Thursday), with Pell St. and Doyer St. opening up for festivities. The Chinatown Business Improvement District will also offer carnival games, community collaborative sculptures, and a candy treasure hunt.
According to event staff, many local eateries, including popular joints like Tea 3, Paper Sons, and others, will provide extra candy on the 31st to encourage participants to explore and “treasure hunt” throughout the neighborhood. Most of these restaurants are relatively new, so this initiative not only brings joy to families collecting candy but also helps these businesses gain popularity and visibility.
Additionally, for the first time, the Chinatown Business Improvement District will introduce a community collaborative sculpture, allowing participants to add feathers to a bird-shaped base, creating a unique work of art together. A marching band will lead a costume parade where residents can showcase their most creative looks. There will also be several large inflatable installations for attendees to snap memorable photos. Adding to the excitement, last year’s five most popular carnival games will return, along with circus performers and clowns, ensuring everyone, young and old, leaves with great memories.
Executive Director Chen Tso-chang expressed that Chinatown, with its historic alleys and hidden passages, is inherently a thrilling location for adventure. With careful planning for the Halloween festivities, it will be a perfect stage for street performers, clowns, dancers, and entertainers to showcase their magic.
The scavenger hunt for candy will continue throughout the day, and the series of Halloween events will kick off at 3 PM on October 31st (Thursday), inviting all residents to join the fun for free.
