On October 16, 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) held the 2024 China-Latin America Industry Investment Cooperation Seminar in Beijing, aimed at advancing the comprehensive partnership and enhancing practical cooperation between China and Latin America.

The event, organized by the NDRC’s Foreign Investment Department and hosted by the China Development Bank, saw participation from over 70 representatives from various Chinese government departments such as the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Commerce, as well as think tanks, major enterprises involved in China-Latin America cooperation, and embassies of Latin American countries in China. Notable attendees included NDRC Deputy Secretary-General Zhang Shixin and Vice President of China Development Bank Wang Weidong, both of whom delivered opening remarks. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions centered on the theme “Diverse Win-Win Cooperation: Joint Efforts to Promote High-Quality Development of China-Latin America Industry Investment,” addressing the political and economic landscape in Latin America, as well as opportunities and challenges for collaboration.

In his speech, Zhang Shixin emphasized that thanks to the personal efforts of leaders from both regions and the active involvement of various sectors, practical cooperation between China and Latin America is advancing rapidly. The three engines of cooperation—trade, investment, and finance—are working in tandem, with mechanisms becoming more refined, trade volumes continuing to expand, investment collaboration deepening, and financial support increasingly evident. Zhang noted the strong economic complementarity between China and Latin American countries, highlighting a solid foundation for cooperation, significant potential, and broad prospects. He expressed China’s willingness to work alongside Latin American nations to promote high-quality development in industry investment cooperation for mutual benefits.

Ambassadors from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Honduras, along with the Minister of Chile to China, also took the stage to share insights into their countries’ socio-economic development, key initiatives, and major projects, reinforcing their intent to deepen industry investment collaboration with China.
