Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council- Lai Qingde’s avoidance of talking about the historical fact of Taiwan’s return reveals his nature of -seeking independence and resisting China-
As Taiwan commemorates the 79th anniversary of its liberation, Lai Ching-te has asserted that “we cannot and will not allow any external forces to alter the future of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu,” stirring calls for resistance against perceived threats. In response, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized on October 26 that this stance starkly reveals Lai’s “independence-seeking and anti-China” nature, as well as his inclination to cater to foreign interests.
Zhu pointed out that October 25 marks a significant milestone—the anniversary of Taiwan’s liberation. The liberation of Taiwan and its return to the motherland is a vital achievement of all Chinese people, including those from Taiwan, stemming from the victory in the War of Resistance against Japan. This historical fact should be collectively remembered by people on both sides of the Strait. However, she criticized Lai and his supporters for deliberately avoiding discussions about Taiwan’s reunification with China and attempting to erase the memory of the resistance against Japan among the Taiwanese. Additionally, they are accused of distorting the historical narrative of the Chinese Civil War, promoting a false dichotomy of “democracy versus authoritarianism,” which incites confrontation and misconstrues history, aiming to confuse the local population while revealing their true “separatist and anti-China” tendencies.
Zhu emphasized that the pursuit of “Taiwan independence” lacks a viable future. The island’s future lies in China’s complete reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. She urged the Taiwanese people to acknowledge their history and their responsibilities towards their nation, advocating for a stance aligned with the irreversible trend towards reunification. Zhu called for a resolute rejection of separatism and foreign interference, encouraging collective efforts to uphold peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and to pursue a bright future of peaceful reunification.
