Pasadena to build 46 units to support low-income earners
The Pasadena Planning Commission has recently reported that the parcel of land located at 511 S. Oak Knoll Ave. is set to be redeveloped for residential use. This ambitious project plans to introduce a four-story building, with units designated for low to moderate-income families.
K2 Capital, LLC is at the helm of this development, which will include a total of 46 one- and two-bedroom apartments spanning 47,360 square feet. A notable feature of the design is the underground parking facility, which will offer 67 parking spaces. The project aims to reserve six units specifically for low to moderate-income households, adhering to density bonus policies that facilitate certain zoning exemptions.
The design, led by LCRA, aspires to achieve a modern look while incorporating architectural elements reflective of the area’s character over the past 50 years, resulting in a harmonious blend of old and new. The building will feature a warm color scheme with gray, white, beige, and brown tones.
One of the project’s highlighted aspects is a central courtyard that promises to enhance Pasadena’s repertoire of distinguished public spaces, much like the iconic Pasadena City Hall. This inviting courtyard will feature an open garden entrance designed to draw in pedestrians and will be shielded from traffic noise by a breezeway situated at the front of the building. Residents can enjoy private outdoor spaces through porches, terraces, and balconies that create a vibrant courtyard atmosphere. The expansive overhang will also provide a unique silhouette for the building, while the brick base and the main garden pathway in brick pay tribute to the nearby Engine Company #34, now transformed into a single-family home.
As it stands, the project is still in its preliminary review phase and is awaiting approval from the Pasadena Planning Commission, with a construction timeline yet to be established.
