MLB/7-6 narrow win, the Phillies get a bye hit and beat the Mets to tie the series
In a thrilling finale, the Philadelphia Phillies narrowly defeated the New York Mets 7-6, thanks to Nick Castellanos’ walk-off hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. This win ties the National League Division Series at one game apiece.
As the ninth inning unfolded, both teams were locked in a tense 6-6 deadlock. Mets pitcher Tylor Megill found himself in a tight spot with two outs, walking back-to-back batters. Castellanos then seized the moment, driving a crucial hit to left field, securing the win for Philadelphia and handing Megill the loss.
Castellanos had a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-5, which included a solo home run in the sixth inning along with the decisive walk-off hit. Bryce Harper also played a key role, contributing a two-run homer.
Mets starter Luis Severino was in control for much of the game, but he ran into trouble in the sixth inning, surrendering two home runs and allowing three runs total. On the flip side, Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sanchez gave up two runs on five hits across five innings.
Facing an eighth-inning deficit, the Phillies rallied as Bryson Stott hit a two-run triple to push them ahead 5-4. However, the Mets, determined to keep their postseason hopes alive, responded in the ninth with Mark Vientos hitting a two-run homer to tie the game at 6-6.
Despite hitting four home runs during the game, the Mets couldn’t close out the victory. With each team now at one win in the series, the next game is set for the Mets’ home stadium on October 8th.
