On October 17, the Shandong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that, with approval from the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, they have launched a formal investigation into Li Wei, a former standing committee member of the province’s Political Consultative Conference and former deputy director of its Economic Committee, for serious violations of discipline and law.
Investigations revealed that Li Wei has consistently failed to uphold his ideals and beliefs, demonstrating disloyalty and insincerity toward the Party. He has shown a lack of resolve in implementing the decisions and directives of the Central Committee, frequently bending rules and resisting organizational scrutiny. Furthermore, he disregarded the central government’s Eight Provisions by accepting gifts and prepaid cards, as well as attending banquets that could influence his impartiality in performing official duties.
Li also violated organizational principles by improperly selecting and appointing cadres, leading to significant mismanagement and errors. He breached the integrity standards expected of government officials, enabling and turning a blind eye to relatives who exploited his position for personal gain while unlawfully retaining shares in unlisted companies. His greed escalated to the point of unlawfully appropriating public assets and engaging in illicit exchange of power for money, leveraging his official position to benefit others in purchasing shares and processing loans, while illegally accepting large sums of money in return.
Li Wei’s actions constitute serious violations of the political, organizational, and ethical regulations of the Party, amounting to significant professional misconduct along with allegations of embezzlement and bribery. Notably, he did not show restraint or reform following the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party, showcasing a serious nature and a detrimental impact on the Party’s image, warranting strict disciplinary measures. In accordance with Party regulations and relevant laws, the Shandong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection has decided to expel Li Wei from the Party, revoke his entitled benefits, annul his honorary titles, confiscate his illegal gains, and refer his criminal allegations to the prosecutorial authorities for legal scrutiny and prosecution, along with the associated assets.
