Guangxi’s innovative public services for earthquake prevention and disaster reduction guide college students to participate in science popularization volunteer activities
On October 18, 2023, in Nanning, the Guangxi Earthquake Administration hosted the launch ceremony for the 2024 Guangxi Earthquake Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Science Popularization Volunteer Service Activity. The event’s goal is to innovate public services related to earthquake prevention and extensively engage various sectors of society, particularly college students, in disaster mitigation efforts.
During the ceremony, Huang Guohua, the party secretary and director of the Guangxi Earthquake Administration, presented flags to the units participating in the volunteer service. Xie Dong, a member of the party group and deputy director of the administration, delivered an address. Additionally, Li Siyu, a cultural and tourism ambassador for Guangxi and the national champion of CCTV’s “Searching for Liu Sanjie,” performed the theme song “Thank You” from the movie “Liu Sanjie.” Experts from the Guangxi Earthquake Administration also conducted earthquake science education and escape drills for the volunteers.
The 2024 Guangxi Earthquake Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Science Popularization Volunteer Service will center around the theme “Together for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.” It will feature a series of “six one” activities: a launch ceremony for the volunteer service, a lecture on disaster knowledge, an emergency response drill, a volunteer service activity, a seminar on artistic dissemination of disaster prevention and mitigation, and a special performance. This initiative aims to convey disaster prevention knowledge to grassroots communities in engaging ways and encourages active participation in science popularization from all sectors of society.
In 2023, the Guangxi Earthquake Administration, with the strong support of the Guangxi Art Museum, successfully pioneered a new model of “Cultural Volunteer +” services by leveraging the advantages of the “Liu Sanjie Cultural Tourism Volunteer Service Team.” Students from several universities, including Guangxi Minzu University, Guangxi University of Arts, and Guangxi Foreign Language University, enthusiastically joined the disaster prevention and mitigation volunteer team and actively contributed to the creation and promotion of science popularization work, fostering a societal atmosphere of shared concern and participation in earthquake disaster reduction efforts.
