In an exclusive interview with China Daily reporters, Ma Weihua provided insights into the remarkable transformation of Xinxing, an emerging city in Xinjiang that is paving a new path for development. Xinxing is quickly making a name for itself in the automotive and renewable energy sectors, positioning itself as a significant player in regional growth.
The city’s automotive industry is undergoing rapid evolution, with clearly defined development strategies. The automotive industrial park spans 4.1 square kilometers and operates under a model that emphasizes “one core leadership, dual-axis driving, and three-tiered interaction.” This multifunctional service area focuses on integrating automobile manufacturing, trade, services, and a circular economy, primarily targeting the commercial vehicle sector.
Yang Jianyu, Deputy Director of the Rocket Farm’s Party Committee, pointed out that Xinxing is successfully attracting businesses from across the automotive supply chain by offering “optimal services” and nurturing a robust industrial ecosystem. Currently, the industrial park hosts over 400 businesses, including a second-hand car trading market, a vehicle inspection station, and a waste recycling company. In 2023, the park recorded a remarkable 30% year-on-year increase in output value.
Key industries in Xinxing are gaining a competitive edge, with a strong focus on commercial vehicle sales, second-hand transactions, vehicle dismantling, inspections, and logistics. Han Shiguo, General Manager of Hami Lubai Cheng Auto Sales Service Co., noted, “Xinxing is dedicated to achieving the best economic, social, and environmental outcomes, continuously driving integrated development in the automotive sector and related industries. This not only enhances the operational capabilities of the park but is essential for improving living standards and fostering economic growth for manufacturers.”
The park has significantly strengthened Xinxing’s specialized commercial vehicle aftermarket, turning it into a thriving industrial hub. Utilizing its resources and geographic advantages, the park aims to take an active role in the new western land-sea corridor, transitioning from corridor advantages to industrial strengths. Xinxing aspires to create a comprehensive suite of automotive services, including the production of new energy heavy trucks and related components, vehicle sales, modifications, performance testing, and dismantling, with a target output value exceeding 10 billion yuan by the end of the “14th Five-Year Plan” period.
“Xinxing is committed to an all-encompassing development strategy,” said Ma Linjin, General Manager of Hami Hongxing Waste Recycling Co. “By meticulously identifying land resources for industrial investment and examining the current and future development status of the park, we aim to establish a shared resource model that extends the automotive core component supply chain, propelling our industrial upgrade.”
Understanding the crucial role of enterprises in driving innovation, Xinxing is strategically capitalizing on opportunities within the photovoltaic sector. The city is actively fostering the growth of new productive forces and enhancing regional collaboration. In recent years, Xinxing has prioritized green, low-carbon initiatives while shifting its energy structure and promoting energy transformation. The emphasis on complementary energy sources, such as wind and solar, has resulted in increased outputs of renewable energy. Lai Chunguang, Deputy Director of Hongxing Fourth Farm’s Party Committee, highlighted the advantages of the area, which have led to the establishment of six photovoltaic power stations covering over 8,300 acres, with an installed capacity of 200 megawatts generating an annual output of 280 million kilowatt-hours.
By focusing on both the automotive and renewable energy sectors, Xinxing is not just encouraging stable regional economic growth but also playing a crucial role in fostering regional economic cooperation. The city’s unique growth trajectory and practical strategies offer valuable insights for other regions. Looking to the future, Xinxing is poised to explore new opportunities and expand its horizons.
