Clear love only for China – Civilized China
On October 7-8, 2023, Beijing hosted a national conference focused on propaganda, ideology, and cultural work, where a significant outcome was the formal introduction of Xi Jinping’s thoughts on culture.
In conjunction with the “Civilization China Talks” series, a new video titled “The Power of Characters” has been released today. This series is dedicated to exploring and applying Xi Jinping’s cultural insights by highlighting five key characteristics of Chinese civilization and displaying their spiritual significance both within China and globally.
During his address at the cultural inheritance and development forum on June 2, 2023, Xi Jinping emphasized that the enduring nature of Chinese civilization shapes the Chinese nation’s unique path. He stated, “Without understanding China through its long-standing historical continuity, one cannot grasp ancient China, modern China, or even understand the future of China.”
Chinese characters, regarded as the foundation of Chinese civilization, weave a rich tapestry through history, connecting past and present. They are imbued with wisdom and philosophical depth, continuing to gleam even after thousands of years. The essence of these characters embodies resilience and spirit, with each word having been refined through the tests of time.
Through these characters, we gain insight into a vibrant and dynamic China. The transformation of inscriptions on turtle shells and animal bones into the artistic expressions of today’s children illustrates the blending of ancient scripts with the innocence of youth, highlighting the enduring cultural heritage of a lively China.
In the elegance of Chinese characters lies a hope for passing down cherished family traditions. The deep-seated feelings of patriotism and righteousness become a catalyst for progress, showcasing a spirited China that fosters heroism.
The interplay between youthful aspirations and deep historical roots reimagines ancient Chinese characters into a contemporary narrative. As we unleash the creative force of innovation, we enter a new chapter of cultural confidence, symbolizing a China that is both transformative and forward-looking.
Characters act as a connecting thread across time and space, ensuring the survival of Chinese civilization as it continues through the ages. They also serve as an emotional bridge, uniting voices from around the world and reflecting a China that is inclusive, harmonious, and peaceful.
This demonstrates not only the power of characters but also the tireless efforts of generations of Chinese individuals dedicated to crafting a new chapter in history.
The essence embedded in characters resonates with everyone, transcending barriers and forging connections between domestic and international communities, spanning past, present, and future.
In his New Year address on December 31, 2023, Xi Jinping pointed out, “From the dawn of Liangzhu and Erlitou civilizations, through the writing legacy of the oracle bones at Yinxu, to the cultural treasures of Sanxingdui and the ongoing lineage of the National Version Museum, our extensive and rich history forms the foundation of our confidence and a source of strength.”
