The first trial of Zhang Guang’s bribery case, former member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Beihang University, begins
On October 18, 2024, the Nanchang Intermediate People’s Court in Jiangxi Province publicly held the first hearing of the bribery case involving Zhang Guang, the former member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Beihang University.
According to the prosecution brought forth by the Nanchang People’s Procuratorate, from 2008 to 2022, the defendant Zhang Guang exploited his various roles—including Secretary of the Communist Youth League at Beihang University, Dean of the Continuing Education School, Assistant President, and former Secretary and Chairman of the Beijing Beihang Asset Management Company—to provide assistance to others in areas such as business operations, student admissions, job placements, and promotions. It is alleged that he illegally accepted over 21.2 million yuan in assets either directly or through intermediaries. The prosecution has called for criminal charges against Zhang Guang for bribery.
During the trial, the prosecution presented relevant evidence, and both Zhang Guang and his defense team participated in cross-examination. Under the court’s supervision, both sides expressed their views fully, and Zhang offered a final statement, acknowledging his guilt and expressing remorse. The court ultimately announced a recess, with a decision to be delivered at a later date.
Over 30 observers, including members of the People’s Congress, Political Consultative Conference representatives, and members of the public, were present in the courtroom to witness the proceedings.
