Virgil van Dijk recently shared insights about his contract situation with Liverpool, noting that discussions are “ongoing” but expressing uncertainty about his future with the club. As one of three senior players, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts are set to expire next summer, Van Dijk acknowledged the concerns and frustrations from supporters regarding the lack of transparency about contract negotiations.

“I can say discussions are ongoing, but I don’t know what happens in the future,” Van Dijk stated. “My full focus is on Liverpool, wanting to win the upcoming games and nothing else. I really have no idea what the future holds. When it’s time to make a decision, I think the media will be informed as well. For now, my commitment and focus are entirely on Liverpool for a successful season.”

Reflecting on his current form, Van Dijk described himself as feeling “very good physically and mentally.” His stellar performances have been crucial in helping Liverpool secure their position at the top of the Premier League under head coach Arne Slot. The team has thrived, securing 10 wins in 11 games, most recently triumphing 2-1 against Chelsea at Anfield, where Curtis Jones put in an impressive display shortly after becoming a father.

Van Dijk praised Jones, saying, “I think it’s been an amazing couple of weeks for him on a personal level. Of course, becoming a dad is huge, and I’m glad everything went well—that’s the most important thing. He also played exceptionally well against Chelsea, scoring the winner and excelling defensively. However, he knows that he must deliver every time he plays. I advise him not to get too swept up in the positivity and to keep pushing forward.”

Looking ahead, Van Dijk is aware of the challenging fixture schedule Liverpool faces. They will be traveling to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League and then heading to title rivals Arsenal. After that, they’ll face matches against Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. “Honestly, it looks like a very tough run of games on paper, and it is. The travel adds another layer of difficulty, and it’s about staying fit and maintaining our rhythm. But I’m looking forward to it. This is what we strive for—to play at the highest level and showcase what we can do. So, let’s go for it.”
