China talks about the first anniversary of the outbreak of the Gaza conflict- -two-state solution- is the fundamental way out for the future
During a routine press conference on October 8, 2024, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning spoke with reporters about the ongoing Gaza conflict, which is now entering its second year.
When asked about China’s position on this enduring conflict, Mao expressed profound concern over the tragic loss of innocent lives and the humanitarian catastrophe that has emerged from the violence. She highlighted the escalating regional tensions and their far-reaching consequences.
“It’s evident that military action and violence are not the answers,” Mao stated. “These approaches only worsen existing grievances and generate new ones, making peace and stability feel more elusive than ever.”
Mao went on to discuss China’s recent “three-step” proposal designed to tackle the Gaza crisis. She stressed the immediate need for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid, emphasizing the importance of allowing “Palestinians to lead Palestinians” in the reconstruction efforts following the conflict. Additionally, she reiterated that the “two-state solution” is essential for moving forward.
“It is vital to realize the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, while also recognizing Israel’s genuine security concerns,” Mao added. She urged the international community to organize a more authoritative and effective conference aimed at promoting de-escalation and establishing a clear timeline and roadmap for realizing the two-state solution. This, she noted, would ultimately foster peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel, as well as harmonious relations among Arab and Jewish communities.
