On October 7th, a tragic shooting unfolded on the streets of Lakewood, Ohio, leaving one person dead and another critically injured, as reported by USA Today. Investigators believe the incident may stem from a domestic dispute and are actively pursuing leads.
Local journalist Winnie Dortch was shot shortly before 8 a.m. that morning. Her colleagues have since labeled her as a “victim of domestic violence.”
Law enforcement in Lakewood initially responded to reports of an argument between two individuals, quickly followed by calls about gunfire in the area.
When officers arrived, they discovered a man and a woman lying in the street, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while Dortch was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Local officials have indicated that the specifics surrounding the shooting remain unclear at this time.
According to data released by the Gun Violence Archive on October 7th, the U.S. has witnessed 414 mass shootings this year, each resulting in at least four casualties, affecting over 38,000 individuals involved in gun-related incidents.
