In a notable turn of events, Minister of State for Defence, Mohamed Bello Matawalle, has returned to Sokoto alongside senior military leaders to launch a renewed offensive against bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements troubling the Northwest region of Nigeria.

This initiative is part of a larger strategy set forth by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at bolstering security across the area. Upon his arrival, Matawalle addressed reporters, reaffirming the federal government’s steadfast commitment to eradicating these threats.

“I am here for the second time in Sokoto State to coordinate this critical mission,” Matawalle explained. “Our objective is clear: to eliminate all bandits and criminals from these regions. We have seen some success so far, including the neutralization of notorious gang leaders and their followers in various locations. There has been noticeable peace in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina States.”

Matawalle expressed confidence that the dedicated troops would continue to achieve positive results through ongoing operations like ‘Fansan Yamma,’ which specifically target criminal activities in the Northwest.

“I want to assure the residents of this region that we are fully committed to successfully addressing the security challenges they face,” he stated. “We will not abandon you; we are determined to win this battle against bandits and those who instigate fear in the community.”

Additionally, he stressed the federal government’s commitment to boosting the morale of soldiers and security personnel, ensuring they have the necessary support to navigate these challenges effectively.

“I want to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices and heroic efforts of our courageous military and security forces in the fight against insecurity,” the minister concluded.
